The Power of Telling the Truth with Lacey Schwartz

Documentary filmmaker Lacey Schwartz grew up in a white Jewish family in a small, mostly white town in Upstate New York. When she was in college, she learned a shocking secret about her biological background—a secret she didn’t discuss with her father until she was 30 for fear of rejection. In Episode 6, Lacey joins me to talk about the power of telling the truth, and how the “little white lies” we tell throughout our lives can be so damaging.

Lacey produced a documentary about her story in 2014 called “Little White Lie.” In the podcast, she shares the challenges she faced in confronting issues of race, paternity and identity while making the documentary. She also discusses the power of sharing a secret.
