#SharedSecrets: Episode 13

The Secret to Looking Great When Your Life is in Flux

I was a 45-year-old single mother of a toddler, and I needed some help. The clothes that had fit my formerly petite, athletic frame didn’t hang quite right anymore, and I needed advice on how to feel great with wider hips, a little belly and less perky “girls.” I visited stylist Eric Himel, and I’ve never looked at my wardrobe the same way again.

Over the past year, Eric has given me great advice on how to dress myself. More importantly, he has taught me that the way we portray ourselves externally can have huge implications for our internal lives. He joins me in this week’s episode of Shared Secrets to discuss how our wardrobe can affect our psyche, and how we can channel our inner fashionistas during times of transition in our lives.

In the episode, Eric shares some concrete fashion tips, such as how to start from the foundation (I’m still blown away by what he told me about my bra size!). He also offers tips on how to use times of transition, from new motherhood to job loss to divorce, as opportunities for reinvention.

More about Eric Himel: Eric studied at the Fashion Design Program at the prestigious Parson’s School of Design in New York City, where he trained under “Project Runway’s” Tim Gunn. Following graduation, Himel moved to Los Angeles and began his styling career, expanding his business across the U.S. and to Canada.

Himel serves as an on-air personality and fashion expert for the The Style Network, E!, ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, CW, TMZ, Lifetime, The Hallmark Channel, The LiveWell Network and The Shopping Channel. He also styles photo shoots and offers fashion tips for magazines including Elle, InStyle, Flaunt, People, Us, Real Simple, Good Housekeeping, First For Women, Los Angeles Fashion Magazine, Miami Living, CS, The Atlantan, Michigan Avenue Magazine and The Chicago Tribune.

Himel regularly works with celebrities for on-camera appearances, photo shoots and the red carpet, including Giuliana and Bill Rancic, Ali Larter, Jenny McCarthy, Kristin Cavallari, Tia Mowry, Pete Wentz, “Grey’s Anatomy’s” Sarah Drew, Ali Fedotowsky, “The Goldbergs’” Hayley Orrantia, Scottie and Larsa Pippen, Rachel Brosnahan, “Chicago Fire’s” Marina Squerciati, “Jane The Virgin’s” Andrea Navedo, “American Crime’s” Angelique Rivera, David Eigenberg, Graham Elliot, Olympic Gold Medalist Gabby Douglas, HGTV’s Alison Victoria and “The Bachelorette’s” Jillian Harris.
